Unique Gift Basket For Baby

The birth of a baby is an exciting time for family and friends. Whether the baby's gender is known ahead of time or not, the introduction of the little one calls for gifts.

A unique gift basket for baby and mother is a gift that will be appreciated by all - and it can be made easily.

DIY Unique Baby Gift Basket

What would you put into a do-it-yourself, unique baby gift basket? We went looking, and were delighted at some of the possibilities. Here are some examples that may help.

1. Pail of Presents: Begin with a pretty, useful pail instead of a basket. Line the pail with a flannelette blanket, letting the edges extend over the pail's top. Add a soft infant's toy, baby soap, baby face cloths, and other bath items according to the size of your gift basket. Finally, add a treat or two for Baby's mother: chocolates, bath salts, a book, or a pretty scarf.

2. Baby Cakes: These gift baskets are becoming very popular. Make yours a unique baby gift basket by creating the cake yourself. Begin with a layer of disposable diapers arranged in a circle. Wrap a small pastel blanket or towel around the diapers, and add diaper pin embellishments. Make the second layer of bibs and face cloths rolled into an appropriate size. Wrap to match the first layer. Insert soft toys in the top of the baby cake. Wrap your gift basket in a large sheet of cellophane and tie the top with a big bow.

3. Baby Sports Fan: Make a unique gift basket that reflects the parents' sports interests. Begin with a hat or helmet from a favorite sports team. Include booties, mittens, shirt, bib, or other clothing in team colors. If your team offers baby items with the team logo, choose from those. Most teams have a plush version of the team mascot. Add that to the hat or helmet. Fill with assorted, practical baby items for a unique baby gift basket.

4. Dinnertime: This unique gift basket for baby looks good in a white woven basket shaped like a bassinette. Line the gift basket with a soft blanket or towels. Add a keepsake name plate, with a gift certificate to have the name inscribed. Include a set of baby silverware or stainless, a plastic dish, and 2 bibs. Top with a soft plush teddy bear and treats for the new mother.

5. Finances: Few gift baskets center on the new baby's finances, but yours can. Start with a basket shaped like a nest. Line it with something for the bottom line diapers and a note that calls them that. Add a piggy bank in silverplate or ceramic. Include a bank passbook or other evidence of a new savings account for the baby with a minimal deposit. Add a couple of plastic est eggs filled with treats for the new mother.

6. Bathtime: Start this unique baby gift basket with a baby TummyTub that keeps young babies safe and secure. TummyTub was designed in the Netherlands to ease transition from the mothers womb. Line the tub with 2 hooded baby towels and 3 facecloths. Add a pretty rubber ducky, bath products, comb, and brush to your gift basket. Don't forget to put in bath salts for Mom.

7. Organics: This gift basket is sure to please parents who are concerned about the environment. It must start with an organic basket, of course. Bamboo is a good eco-friendly choice. Add an organic bamboo receiving blanket, and clothing items such as organic bamboo knit shirt, bamboo diaper covers, and bamboo knit hat. Put in organic bath products and lotions. Top off your gift basket with a soft, organic cotton toy and organic treats for the new mother.

Helpful Tip

Baby gift baskets need not be wrapped in cellophane, although they will look professional if you do so. All you really need is a pretty ribbon and a card.

Top Holiday Gifts for Newborn Babies

Is someone you know spending this holiday season with a brand new baby? Do you feel like you should send something, but you're not sure what someone so tiny wants or needs? Here are a few holiday gift ideas for the youngest generation...

Pajamas.

Face it, new babies spend 18 to 20 hours a day sleeping. They don't need too many dress up outfits; they need comfy, soft sleepwear. Most babies will spit up, drool, or poop enough to need fresh clothing several times a day, so extras sleepers are very handy. Look for the kind with the fold-over mitten-hands on the ends of each sleeve. Those are to keep them from swinging their hands too close to their face and scratching themselves with their new little sharp fingernails.

Toys.

What kind of toys do newborns 'play' with?? Well, some really do like the traditional rattle, (even though someone will have to shake it for them for a while yet). Some other good ideas are musical teethers or soft stuffed animals. Babies like soft repetitive sounds, so look for slow music-box type songs. Save the blaring Dancing Elmo type toys for when they reach toddler age, and can enjoy that sort of thing. Also, keep in mind that babies will put everything they can into their mouths, so only give them toys that are too big to choke on. You can use the cardboard tube from inside a roll of toilet-paper for a guide. Any toy that can fit through the tube is too small to give a baby.

Drool/spit-up cloths.

Babies can't seem to get enough of these. It's amazing that someone so small can put out so much fluid. There's a LOT of wiping up with a new baby. Most discount stores offer a package of around two dozen terrycloth washcloths for three to five dollars. They come in a variety of colors and terry is very absorbent.

Blankies.
Just like the drool cloths, new babies always seem to need a few more of these. Newborns have a hard time maintaining their body heat, so no matter what the season they're born in, they'll need receiving blankets. Flannel ones are standard, and can be layered for extra warmth. They often come in three-packs at common discount stores, such as Wal-Mart, in a variety of colors and prints. If you're in a cooler climate, think about a fleece throw-blanket for in the car. Online stores such as Jonathan Junction (www.jonathanjunction.com) have cute tied fleece blankies that are just the right size for covering a baby in a carseat.

Gift cards at the photo place.

Someday this baby is only going to remember this time through pictures. Ask your local photography studio about gift certificates to help capture this irreplaceable time. Home snapshots can be good, but an experienced photographer can coax the best expressions out of the child and produce a treasured keepsake.

Face time.

Don't just drop off a gift and leave. Give baby the gift of your time! Babies like to look at human faces more than anything else, and new stimuli helps develop their brains. So be the new face in their life! Hold your face about 12-15 inches from baby's eyes, and let 'em stare. Talk or sing, so baby can watch your mouth move. Stick out your tongue and make silly faces. Newborn enjoy every opportunity to watch faces. Sometimes the least expensive gifts are still the best.

These ideas should get you started having some fun shopping for your favorite new addition this holiday season. Happy Shopping!

Baby Shower Gifts Under $10

The pitter-patter of little feet is always a joyous sound to your ears, but all those baby shower gifts are draining your savings. You don't have to blow a bundle on adorable toys and outfits to create a memorable baby gift. The next time you get invited to a baby shower keep these great $10 or less gift ideas in mind:

1.)Babysitting Coupons: This gift will only cost a bit of your precious time. Print up cute certificates offering hour-long babysitting sessions. The mom-to-be will adore a baby-free afternoon and the chance for a pedicure or uninterrupted lunch.

2.)Movie Package: Buy a pre-owned DVD ($5 or less on Amazon or eBay) and package it with microwave popcorn - it could be awhile before the new parents can get back to a movie theater.

3.)Mix it Up: Burn a CD of your favorite, upbeat, baby-friendly tunes. The Beatles, ABBA and Simon and Garfunkel are always popular with kids. Your friends will thank you for saving them from suffering through an endless loop of Raffi.

4.) Subscription Prescription: Give the new parents a subscription to a parenting magazine like FamilyFun ($9.95 for ten issues), Parent & Child ($9.97 for six issues). This gift will outlast any clothing purchase and promises to deliver monthly tips on childrearing. Look for discount subscription offers online or special 2-for-1 subscriptions.

5.)Meal Solutions: Offer your personal chef services. The new parents will love having a night off from cooking or a break from the monotony of take-out cuisine. Make sure you show up with all the ingredients and clean up after yourself.

6.)Start a Baby Book: Carry a colorful notebook, Polaroid and colored pens to the baby shower. Snap away and while the mom-to-be is busy opening gifts, you'll have attached the first few photos in her new baby book.

7.)Pacifier Package: Pacifiers (a.k.a. binkies, nuk-nuks and soothers) are small and inexpensive, but extremely practical. Baby superstores sell two-packs for $3. Purchase two different brands and add a pacifier leash ($2.95). These little items always seem to get lost; any mom can use a plentiful supply.

8.)Create Your Own Layette: Purchase a 3-pack of onesies ($9 or less) and put your creative energy to work. Embellish the onesies with nontoxic paint pens and markers to create fun designs for the baby.

9.)Start a library: Scout out local yard sales and snap up vintage baby books. Look for volumes in good condition and check for missing pages. Try to stick to theme: Dr. Seuss, Beatrix Potter, etc., and make sure to wipe down the pages before wrapping.

10.) Hospital Help: Offer to take care of Fluffy or Fido while your pal heads to the hospital. Keep your schedule open for the weeks preceding the delivery and get a spare set of keys and care instructions.

These thoughtful gifts will be deeply appreciated and more memorable than yet another bear sweater or plastic toy. Use your creativity and save your cash.

Baby Gift Baskets For Showers And Newborn Gifts

If you are wondering what to buy for a baby gift or baby shower gift, then you may be faced with something of a dilemma. You will know that the parents probably need practical things, as does the forthcoming or newborn baby. The parents will probably also like items that are attractive, while a new baby will not care one little bit what their clothes, bedding or any other baby items look like. An attractively presented baby gift basket helps the gift buyer to reach a compromise, and solve their dilemma.

It is certainly fine, if not desirable, to focus on practical baby gifts, whether they are to be presented at a baby shower or directly at some other time; before or after the new baby is born. That then leaves the desire of the parents, and the person giving, to receive or offer a gift that is attractive. With a gift basket, you can combine the practical gifts with some pretty and attractive necessities, thus making an ideal gift offering to celebrate the birth.

Many of the things parents will really need for a new baby are quite mundane, to say the least. Diapers, baby powder, baby soap and other seemingly trivial items are really necessities, and will be welcome gifts for a new baby. However, individually they do not make gifts that most of us would like to give. Despite that, mixing the baby powder, diapers and wet wipes with some toys, and then presenting them nicely, can bring about a transformation. That is where baby gift baskets really come into their own.

For example, you could have a diaper bag as a basket and include a few baby toys, such as plastic ducks, baby rattle, and cuddly bear, together with more practical items like a wash cloth set, baby manicure set, picture frame, flannel baby blanket, gel teether, comb & brush set, and baby wash.

Another type of example would be an educational mix in a coloured wicker basket. You could use blue, pink or neutral colours for the basket, then for the gifts choose items like board books, soft toys with classical sounds, colouring crayons and a colouring book. Such gifts will be appreciated more later, of course, but they are good to have in hand when the baby is born as babies soon take an interest in pictures.

There are many permutations of gifts once you have made that decision to give a baby gift basket either at a shower, or after the baby has been born. There is also one plus for you: it can be great fun making up a basket gift yourself, or even choosing one online. For a baby shower, a cookie gift basket could offered as an additional basket, to provide part of shower feast.
